A limited liability company, or LLC, is similar to a partnership but has the legal protections of personal assets that a corporation offers without the burdensome formalities, paperwork and fees. The exact rules for forming an LLC vary by state.

DBA Doing Business As
Most states require DBA or fictitious business name filings to be made in order to protect consumers conducting business with the entity. A company is said to be "doing business as" when the name under which they operate their business differs from its legal, registered name. Likewise, a trade name, or business name is a name used by companies to perform their business under a name that differs from the registered, legal name of the business.he distinction between a registered legal name and a "fictitious" business name or trade name is important, as businesses with the latter give no obvious indication of the true identity of the entity that is legally responsible for their operation. Fictitious business names do not create legal entities in and of themselves; they are merely names assumed by existing persons or entities.
